The Nashville Symphony declared a financial emergency and suspended its 2026-27 season this week. The board faces a $10 million budget deficit and will furlough musicians and staff while it restructures the organization. The suspension affects musicians and staff directly, though signature fundraising events will still take place.

Four proposed charter schools appealed to the Tennessee Public Charter School Commission after Metro Nashville Public Schools denied their applications. Music City Academy, The Gate School, Nashville School of Excellence and Empowerment Academy presented their cases at hearings on September 24 and 25. The outcome will shape which school options may be available to Nashville families.

Metro Nashville Police arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with a fatal robbery-related shooting from September 2024. Police suspect he shot the victim in the stomach during an attempted robbery, and he will be charged with criminal homicide. The arrest comes two years after the shooting, and the charge remains an accusation until proven in court.

Republican Johnny Garrett and Democrat Mike Croley are running in Tennessee's 6th Congressional District, which was redrawn and includes parts of Nashville. Garrett is a state representative, and Croley is a Navy veteran. Voters in those Nashville areas will choose who represents them in Congress.
