Candidates are running for Chicago Board of Education seats in two south side districts in the upcoming school board elections. District 10a has Che “Rhymefest” Smith and Tameka Walton, while District 10b has Connie Anderson, Patrick Watson and Rosita Chatonda. Voters can compare candidates and incumbent voting records before choosing who helps set policy for city public schools.

Chicago River bridges begin fall lifts Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. so sailboats and other watercraft can pass. Most lifts happen Wednesdays and Saturdays through mid-November, on bridges from DuSable Lake Shore Drive to 18th Street. Each lift takes eight to 12 minutes, so drivers should plan detours around the bridges.

Fighter jets intercepted at least 10 planes over the Chicago area on Sunday for violating a temporary flight restriction. The restriction applied during President Donald Trump's visit to Medinah Country Club for the Presidents Cup, and officials said all situations ended safely. Flight restrictions around major events apply to civilian pilots, and violations can bring military responses.

The National Endowment for the Arts is recognizing Sones de México Ensemble, a Chicago group focused on traditional Mexican music. The ensemble has spent more than three decades promoting and preserving that music, with education as part of its mission. Its work helps Chicago residents connect with the cultural history behind the music.
