The National Seismological Service reported a 4.9 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Chiapas on October 16, 2026. The epicenter was located 110 kilometers southwest of Huixtla at a depth of only 10 kilometers.

Federal authorities secured 171.42 kilos of apparent cocaine, packaged in 170 units, hidden within the fuel tanks of a tractor-trailer. The drug was found during an inspection at the Comprehensive Border Traffic Attention Center (CAITF) in Huixtla, Chiapas.
